Sculptor Zurab Tsereteli has been working on the project for almost 40 years.
A 33 meter-high figure of Christ and a large-scale composition ‘Russia’s history of the Romanovs’, composed of 17 bronze figures of 8, 6 and 5m heights will be installed in the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg Park. Sculptor Zurab Tsereteli told about this in an interview with Komsomol’skaya Pravda newspaper.
“I’ve been working almost 40 years on this project! It was decided that on one of the park’s alleys, the male rulers will ‘follow’ one another, the other alley will be reserved for the female tsaritsas (queens). We will find a place for Christ,” remarked Tsereteli.
He also mentioned, that usually the Christ is placed at a certain height; however, he believes that the figure should stand on ground.
Let us remark, that the exact date at which the sculptures will be installed in the park remains unknown. Today, on January 4, Zurab Tsereteli turns 82.
